AI Image Detector for Chrome

Privacy policy

AI Image Detector by LMB is a Chrome extension that checks whether an image is likely AI-generated. It's made by LMB Technology, a small software studio in Fort Myers, Florida. This page says exactly what it sends, what we keep, and why.

The short version

Only what you check

Nothing is sent until you check an image, and then only that image or its address.

Images aren't stored

Images are checked and thrown away. Their addresses and the results aren't kept either.

No account, no tracking

No sign-up, no browsing history, no analytics or ads in the extension.

A count of checks

The only thing kept is how many checks your install used this month, for your plan.

What the extension sends

Nothing is sent until you check an image. When you do, the extension sends our server one of these:

  • For an image you right-clicked: the image's web address and the address of the page it was on (some sites only serve images to their own pages). Our server downloads that one image to check it.
  • For an image you dropped, pasted, chose or took a screenshot of: the image itself, shrunk to at most 2048 pixels.
  • The part you cropped, as a rectangle, if you cropped.

The first time the extension starts, it also asks our server for an anonymous install id and secret, which it keeps in Chrome's storage (synced to your other computers if Chrome sync is on). They identify your plan, not you.

What we keep

  • Your install id, a scrambled (hashed) copy of its secret, your plan, and if you pay, the Stripe ids of your subscription.
  • How many checks your install used each month.

Images, image and page addresses, crops and results are not stored. They pass through memory while the check runs and are discarded. Our server runs on Fly.io in the United States.

Who processes your images

To check an image, our server sends it (cropped and shrunk to at most 1024 pixels) through our own relay (a Cloudflare Worker that holds the service's keys) to Sightengine, the AI-image detection service behind the score. Sightengine processes it to return the score under its own privacy terms. Nobody else receives your images.

Permissions

  • Context menus: to add "Check with AI Image Detector" when you right-click an image.
  • Side panel: to show the crop tool and the result next to the page.
  • Storage: to keep your install id, and to hand the right-clicked image to the panel.
  • Active tab: only when you press "Use a screenshot", to capture the tab you are looking at so you can crop to an image that can't be downloaded. It works only after you click the extension or its menu on that tab.

The extension cannot read or change the websites you visit, and it doesn't see your browsing history.

Paid plans

Paid plans are sold by LMB Technology through Stripe Checkout. Stripe handles your payment details under its privacy policy; we only learn that your install's subscription is active, never your card details. Cancelling and invoices are in Stripe's billing portal, from Manage plan in the extension.

What it never does

  • No ads, analytics or tracking in the extension.
  • No selling or sharing of data, and no use of it for anything other than checking the images you ask about.
  • No reading of pages, forms, passwords or history.
